In 2026, stem cell therapy in Mexico usually costs between about $4,000 and $20,000, depending on the type of cells, the number of cells, and what the price includes. At Santa Maria, our Stem Cell Program is $5,900 per person, with 3 days of testing and preparation, 100 million umbilical cord stem cells, your room, your meals and a round-trip transfer from San Diego all included.
But the price tag alone tells you little. Two clinics can both say “$5,000” and give very different care. This guide explains why prices vary, what a fair price includes, and how to check a clinic is safe.
Stem cell therapy prices in Mexico, and why they differ
Prices for stem cell therapy in Mexico cover a wide range. Medical travel booking sites list basic mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) packages from roughly $4,000 to $5,000. Longer programs, treatments using your own cells, or programs with several infusions often run $6,000 to $20,000 or more (Bookimed, Mexico MSC listings, updated October 2026). These are broker figures, not official prices.
Why such a big spread?
- Cell source. Donor cells (such as umbilical cord tissue) and cells from your own fat or bone marrow are made differently, and cost differently.
- Cell count. One clinic may give 30 million cells, another 100 million or more. A lower price often means fewer cells.
- Testing. Some clinics run full blood work before treatment. Others skip it.
- What’s bundled. Some prices cover only the infusion. Others include your stay, meals, transport and follow-up.
- The lab. Cells from an authorized lab with quality checks cost more than cells with no paperwork.
If a quote is very low, ask what is missing.
What a fair price should include
When you compare clinics, a fair, honest price should tell you clearly:
- How many cells you receive, and what type.
- Where the cells come from, and which lab made them.
- Which lab tests are done before treatment, and who reviews them.
- Who sees you: how many doctor visits are included, before and after.
- Where you stay and what you eat, if you are traveling.
- Transport, from the airport or border and back.
- Follow-up after you go home.
- What happens if you are not a good candidate. Do you still pay for the cells?
If a clinic can’t answer these in writing, that is a warning sign.
What Santa Maria’s Stem Cell Program includes
Our program has one price: $5,900 per person. Many clinics give the cells on the day you arrive. At Santa Maria, every patient completes 3 days of testing and preparation first, so we know your starting point and your body is ready before the cells.
Here is what is included:
- 100 million umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells, given by IV, from a COFEPRIS-authorized laboratory
- Full labs before any cells: complete blood count, blood chemistry, HbA1c and tumor markers
- Two doctor consultations, one before treatment and one after your infusion
- Live blood microscopy with the doctor (a visual tool, not a diagnostic test)
- 22 preparation treatments, including IV ozone, IV laser, high-dose IV vitamin C, lymphatic drainage, infrared sauna, red light and PEMF therapy
- Your private room, up to 4 nights, a few minutes from the clinic
- Chef-prepared meals and your personal herbal mix to continue at home
- Round-trip transfer from San Diego airport or the border, plus daily transport
- Follow-up calls with our doctor at 30, 60 and 90 days
There is also a premium option at $7,900. It is the same program, with cells that go through extra screening, including a 61-gene panel. (Both options come with a certificate of analysis for your batch of cells.) Your doctor explains which option fits you.

Your stay, day by day
Thursday · Arrive. We pick you up at San Diego airport or the border and bring you to your room. Arriving early? You can meet the doctor that evening.
Friday · Day 1, Test. Your morning starts with the microscope. You see your own blood on screen with the doctor. Then comes your consultation and full lab panel. Preparation treatments begin.
Saturday · Day 2, Prepare. Preparation treatments, healthy meals and rest by the ocean. The doctor reviews your labs.
Sunday · Day 3, Deliver. Final preparation in the morning. In the afternoon, you receive 100 million stem cells by IV. A certified Mexican physician places the IV and stays with you. The infusion and observation take about 1 to 2 hours. Then you have a follow-up with the doctor.
Monday · Depart. Leave Sunday evening or after Monday breakfast, at no extra cost. We drive you back.
How payment works
You pay for the cells only after your labs.
- $500 deposit reserves your Thursday arrival.
- $2,450 is paid at the clinic on your first day.
- $2,950 is paid Saturday morning, only after the doctor has reviewed your labs and confirmed your stem cells.
If your labs show stem cells are not right for you, the doctor explains why in person. You can choose another regenerative therapy, if the doctor recommends one, or the 3-day preparation without cells ($2,950 total). You never pay for cells you don’t receive.
How to check that a stem cell clinic in Mexico is safe
In the United States, the FDA has approved only a small number of stem cell products, made from cord blood, for certain blood disorders. Most other stem cell treatments, including those for joint pain or neurological conditions, are not FDA-approved. The FDA has also received reports of serious harm, such as infections, linked to unapproved products (FDA, Important Patient and Consumer Information About Regenerative Medicine Therapies).
In Mexico, the federal health regulator is COFEPRIS. Mexican law requires places that collect, process or supply human cells to be licensed by COFEPRIS (AABB, Mexico regulatory overview; ISCT, regulatory update, April 2025). COFEPRIS has shut down clinics that broke these rules.
Here’s how to check a clinic:
- Ask for COFEPRIS paperwork. For the clinic itself and for the lab that makes the cells. Santa Maria is registered with COFEPRIS (Aviso de funcionamiento no. 2602035036A00033), and you can view the certificate on our website. Our cells come from three COFEPRIS-licensed laboratories, and we share their paperwork on request.
- Ask about labs. A careful clinic checks your blood, including tumor markers, before giving cells.
- Ask who gives the cells. A licensed doctor should review your case. A trained medical team should place and watch the IV. You can check a Mexican doctor’s license (cédula profesional) on the government registry.
- Ask about the cell source and screening. Where do the cells come from? Were donors screened? Is there a certificate of analysis? At Santa Maria, every batch comes with a certificate of analysis, in the standard $5,900 program too.
- Watch for red flags. Be careful with any clinic that promises a cure, quotes success rates, pushes you to pay in full before any tests, or gives cells on day one with no labs.

Questions to ask before you book
- How many cells will I receive, and what type are they?
- Which lab made the cells, and is it authorized by COFEPRIS?
- Can I see the certificate of analysis for my batch?
- What lab tests do you run before treatment, and who reviews them?
- Who places the IV, and who watches me during and after it?
- What exactly is included in the price, and what costs extra?
- What happens, and what do I pay, if I’m not a good candidate?
- What follow-up do I get after I go home?
- What are the possible side effects, and what do you do if one happens?
A good clinic will answer all of these in writing. Our answers are on the Stem Cell Program page and in our FAQ.

Frequently asked questions
How much does stem cell therapy cost in Mexico?
Most clinics in Mexico charge between about $4,000 and $20,000, depending on the cells, the number of cells and what is included. Santa Maria’s Stem Cell Program is $5,900 per person, with labs, 3 days of preparation, 100 million umbilical cord stem cells, room, meals and round-trip transfer from San Diego.
Is stem cell therapy in Mexico safe?
It depends on the clinic. Choose one registered with COFEPRIS that uses cells from an authorized lab, runs labs before treatment, and has a doctor review your case. Like any medical treatment, it has possible side effects, so ask the clinic to explain them before you book.
Is stem cell therapy FDA-approved?
Not for the uses most clinics offer, including ours. The FDA has approved only a few cord-blood stem cell products, for certain blood disorders. At Santa Maria, stem cell therapy is provided in Mexico, where it is regulated by COFEPRIS. Results vary from person to person.
What kind of stem cells does Santa Maria use?
Umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells from a COFEPRIS-authorized laboratory. They come from umbilical cord tissue donated with consent after healthy births. They are not embryonic cells, and no donor matching is needed.
What if my labs show I’m not a candidate?
You don’t pay for the cells. The doctor explains your results in person. You can choose another regenerative therapy, if the doctor recommends one, or complete the 3-day preparation without cells for $2,950 in total.
How far is the clinic from San Diego?
About 50 minutes from the San Diego border. On the Stem Cell Program, round-trip pick-up from San Diego airport or the border is included.
