How we work

First the cause. Then the system. Then the result.

We don’t ask “Which procedure should we give?” We ask “What is causing this, and in what order should we work on it?”

Where it starts

When your body feels stuck

Many of our patients come to Santa Maria after living with symptoms for 5, 10 or even 15 years. They have seen many doctors, in the US, Mexico and elsewhere. They have tried medications, supplements, diets, IVs, physical therapy, sometimes surgery. Some have a diagnosis. Others were told their labs are “normal”, but they still don’t feel well.

People often come to us with:
chronic fatigue, brain fog, low energy, poor sleep, migraines
fibromyalgia, persistent pain, joint and spine problems
symptoms that never went away after a virus, including long COVID
Lyme disease and infections that keep coming back
digestive, liver or gallbladder problems
blood sugar, weight, cholesterol, fatty liver
hormonal or nutritional imbalances
many symptoms in different parts of the body at the same time

We know this road personally. Our founder Mariya lived for eight years with a complex chronic condition. She saw more than 60 doctors in five countries, and her labs were “normal”. The cause was finally found: chronic Lyme disease with a co-infection. She recovered only when she connected what medicine usually treats separately: infections, immunity, metabolism, the gut, nutrition, the nervous system and emotional health. In 2020 that experience became Santa Maria.

Part 1

First the cause.

Why the body gets stuck: the overload
The overload

Why the body gets stuck: the overload

Every day we take in things our grandparents never encountered: heavy metals, pesticides, microplastics and chemicals in food, water, air and cosmetics. On top of that there are hidden pathogens: parasites, fungi such as Candida, and viruses and bacteria that can stay in the body for years.

A healthy body cleans itself through the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, lymph, gut and skin. But when more comes in than the body can remove, it starts to store the excess in the liver, the gallbladder, fat tissue and the cells. Year after year the load grows, and the body pays for it with inflammation, fatigue and a weaker immune system. Add stress, poor sleep and years of worry about your health, and the body gets stuck.

Many chronic conditions begin exactly here: the body has been overloaded for so long that it has adapted to living with the overload.

Think of a frozen computer. Hundreds of processes run at once, the memory is full, and programs conflict. Opening one more program doesn’t fix it. The whole system needs a cleanup and a restart.

Inflammation

Four kinds of inflammation

Inflammation sits behind most chronic problems, but it isn’t one thing. We look for four kinds:

TypeWhere it comes from
Immunehidden infections, an overactive or exhausted immune system
Metabolicblood sugar, insulin, weight, fatty liver
Cellularcells that can’t produce enough energy: fatigue, slow recovery
Gutmicrobiome imbalance, parasites, a gut that “leaks” inflammation into the body

A treatment that helps one kind can be useless for another. That’s why you need a program built around your cause, not a menu of procedures.

We look first, then act
Diagnose

We look first, then act

Before we treat, we build one clear picture of you, from five angles:

Your blood, live under the microscope
on a screen, together with you
Laboratory markers
metabolic, inflammatory, nutritional
Your organs
ultrasound
Your history
every doctor, test and treatment so far
Your life
food, sleep, stress, emotional state
One picture of the patient → one likely cause → one program.

When your history points to it, we add tests through our partner laboratory (at extra cost): Lyme disease and co-infections, parasites, Candida, viruses and immune function. When you need more, an MRI, X-ray or specialist is arranged nearby in Tijuana, and your doctor brings everything together.

Tests should answer questions, not create more paperwork. Not everyone needs every test.

Live blood microscopy is a helpful visual tool. It doesn’t replace laboratory tests.
Part 2

Then the system.

One program

Six approaches in one program

Many clinics offer one of these. The cause usually sits between them, so we combine all six:

Medicine
evidence-based
Integrative and natural medicine
Wellness and recovery
Science
microbiology, genetics
Nutrition
Stress, sleep and the nervous system

Separately, each one helps a little. Together, they work far better than any one of them alone.

The difference

Procedures are tools. The program is the product.

You can get an IV in one place, a massage in another, a sauna at the gym and a diet from an app. But they come at different times, from different people, with no plan connecting them. That isn’t enough to cleanse and restart an overloaded body.

Back to the same food and stress the same dayYou live the program all day: food, herbs, rest, ocean
Aimed at one symptomAimed at the cause and the whole body
No plan for afterwardsA 90-day home plan and return visits

A typical health resort gives 4 or 5 treatments a day. Our Longevity programs give 7 to 8, and All-Inclusive 8 to 12. More is not automatically better. The point is to combine treatments that support each other, while your doctor watches how you respond.

Procedures are tools. The program is the product.
The sequence

The order matters as much as the treatments

It matters what we do, and just as much when, and in what combination.

Open the exits → Support → Work on the cause → Restore → Lock in
1
Open the exits
liver, gallbladder, lymph, kidneys, skin
2
Support
energy, gut, nerves, food, sleep
3
Work on the cause
infections, inflammation, metabolism
4
Restore
tissues, energy, immunity
5
Lock in
measure again, plan for home

First we open the body’s exits, then we clean and treat. If toxins are stirred up before the liver and lymph can remove them, people feel worse. In the wrong order, patients often feel worse around day 4. In the right order, many patients tell us they start to feel different around day 5. This sequence took us years of work with real patients to build, and it’s the part that can’t be copied from a list of procedures.

Cleanse & reset

The seven parts of the Cleanse & Reset

At Santa Maria the whole day is part of the treatment, not just 45 minutes in a doctor’s office.

1
The ocean. The clinic sits right on the Pacific. You breathe salty sea air, spend time outdoors and step away from your normal stress.
2
Food. Our chef cooks alkaline, plant-based meals planned for your program, with no ultra-processed food or added sugar. Some days are juice days. The food isn’t “included with the treatments”. It is one of the treatments.
3
Herbs. We work with 196 medicinal herbs. Your doctor chooses a personal mix of 3 to 5 for you, and you sip it through the day from your own thermos.
4
Cleanse. When medically appropriate, every patient receives an anti-parasite protocol (herbs, plus a short preventive course prescribed by the doctor), a liver and gallbladder cleanse (after an ultrasound check), lymphatic drainage, detox foot baths and other cleansing treatments chosen by your doctor.
5
Heat and water. The Slavic banya, our traditional wood-fired steam room with a view of the ocean, our saunas and our ocean-fed pool: heat and water, used for centuries to support circulation and recovery. On stays of 10 days or longer, a trip to the hot springs is included.
6
Treatments. From a menu of about 150: IVs (vitamin C, alpha-lipoic acid, ozone and others), massage, physiotherapy, salt scrubs, red light and more. Many come from the Eastern European health-retreat tradition, where doctors have prescribed them for decades. One example is electrophoresis: a gentle current carries medicine through the skin to a painful spine or joint, without a needle.
7
Movement and calm. Most mornings start with exercise suited to your ability. Rest, sleep and a daily rhythm calm the nervous system. They’re part of the medicine, not spa extras.

And your medical team, led by our physician, putting it all together and adjusting the plan as your body responds.

Your stay

Your stay: first the foundation, then your focus

“I have metabolic problems; another patient has fatigue. Why do we get some of the same treatments?”

Because every overloaded body first needs the same foundation: open the exits, cleanse, restore circulation, improve food and sleep, and calm inflammation. After that, the program becomes more targeted.

Week 1 · Cleanse & Reset
Our strongest foundation protocol, the same starting point for everyone.
Week 2 · Target
Aimed at your cause and your results.
Week 3 · Deepen
For long-standing cases that need more time.

How long? One week is a good start. For a long-standing condition we recommend 10 days to 3 weeks on your first visit.

Part 3

Then the result.

You see the change, not just hear about it
The result

You see the change, not just hear about it

A result shouldn’t be only the doctor’s words. In our Detox, Longevity and All-Inclusive programs, on your first and last day, we look at your blood under the microscope together, on a screen. You see the difference with your own eyes.

At home

After you go home: your 90-day home protocol

The stay creates momentum. Your everyday life decides whether it continues. On your last day, your doctor gives you written recommendations and a personal home protocol for about three months:

what we found, and what to follow up with your own doctor
your food plan, herbs and supplements
medications, if the doctor prescribed any
exercise, sleep and stress
which labs to repeat, and when

We stay in touch. On All-Inclusive and the Stem Cell Program our doctor calls you at 30, 60 and 90 days (about 20 minutes each); on the Women’s, Men’s and 60+ programs, at 30 days. We see how you are doing and help you keep to your protocol.

After you go home: your 90-day home protocol
Your first year, and every year after
The long view

Your first year, and every year after

We want to replace “I’m going to Mexico for a miracle week” with “I’m starting a structured year of recovery.”

Year 1 · Recovery: an intensive stay (10 days to 3 weeks) → 90 days at home with your plan → check your labs and how you feel → a second stay about 6 months later.

Year 2 and after · Maintenance: measure, cleanse, restore, plan the next year. One week, once or twice a year.

If you have a chronic condition: two stays in the first year, then usually once a year.

If you feel healthy: a yearly visit for a check-up, cleanse and reset. We service our cars every year. The body needs maintenance too.

Returning patients get 10% off every program.

Honesty

What we don’t do

We don’t just treat symptoms.
We don’t sell a list of trendy procedures.
We don’t promise miracles or guaranteed results.
We don’t ask you to reject conventional medicine. Sometimes medication or surgery is the right answer, and we’ll tell you.
We don’t replace your own doctor. We work alongside them.

What we do promise is a clear, structured process: what we can measure, what we can cleanse, what we can restore, what needs more investigation, and what you can realistically continue at home.

Our promises

Our five promises

Clarity
You understand your own case. We show, we explain, we answer.
Coordination
One place, one team, one plan.
Intensity
A full day of treatments that work together, under medical supervision.
Personalization
Your program follows your blood, your labs and your history.
Continuity
A home protocol for about three months, and return visits.

Is Santa Maria a clinic or a spa? A clinic: an integrative longevity clinic where medicine, bodywork and nutrition come together in one program, and the starting point is the cause. It is not a hospital: we don’t do surgery or emergency care.
