Chlorophylls is a family of green pigments of plants and "natural" photosensitizers. These pigments, as well as plant extracts in general, exert strong photodynamic signal due to high yield of singlet oxygen. Chlorophyll and other "pigments of life" are primarily being tested for treating skin bacteria, such as acne. Chlorophyl a and its derivatives were also potent for treating psoriasis. Plant-derived chlorophylls a and b absorb light at 644 – 662 nm and best used in combination with red light and laser.
